AArod DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs

Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall

FutureC+
The Chiefs lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story. The phones were a trap the Chiefs kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The Chiefs indulged a want in Scott while a need in quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Rodriguez has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick No. 15 they get a three-down runner, outstanding value to boot.
Pick23
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a security blanket over the middle at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick45
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They jumped the gun on Dillon Thieneman, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick76
Rnd3
Ian Strong
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ian Strong. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick114
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
They paid sticker price for D'Angelo Ponds in slot 114, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick120
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 120 on Xavier Scott with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jacob Rodriguez
They went early on Jacob Rodriguez in No. 153, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick176
Rnd5
Monroe Mills
No edge and no loss on Monroe Mills in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
