Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Texans.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Texans took Tim Keenan III a full 89 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Singleton. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
They jumped the gun on Caleb Lomu, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick37 Rnd2 Olaivavega Ioane
Olaivavega Ioane at the 37th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
Pick53 Rnd2 Darrell Jackson Jr.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tim Keenan III
A big swing on Tim Keenan III at Round 3, Pick 2, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick108 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at the 108th overall pick is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick121 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
By-the-book stuff, Jalon Kilgore at pick 121 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 162 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick237 Rnd7 Malik Hartford
They did well to land Malik Hartford in No. 237, just ahead of his grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick241 Rnd7 Desmond Reid
A straight-up fair deal on Desmond Reid at the 241st pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
