Draft Grade — Texans
Overall C+
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Texans get a C+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 100 spots for Quinten Joyner, and value like that does not grow back. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.

On value alone, Daniels makes the weekend a net positive. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In the 30th overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick62 Rnd2 Jaeden Roberts
They liked Jaeden Roberts enough to skip the value, taking him in the 62nd pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick66 Rnd3 Austin Siereveld
Austin Siereveld at Round 3, Pick 2 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Pick108 Rnd4 Kaytron Allen
They paid sticker price for Kaytron Allen in slot 108, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick121 Rnd4 Quinten Joyner
Quinten Joyner at pick No. 121 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick130 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Kilgore in Round 4, Pick 30. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at pick No. 162 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick237 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Zuhn III. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Daniels at pick 241. The roster fit checks out.
