Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
D-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Browns to a D-. The Browns treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending Round 6, Pick 29 on Jalen Thompson a full 66 spots early. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick18
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at slot 38 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Daylen Everette
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 69 with a little surplus value in Daylen Everette. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the 104th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick141
Rnd5
Earnest Greene III
A real head-scratcher, Earnest Greene III in the 141st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
No edge and no loss on Chase Roberts in the 142nd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148
Rnd5
Jaydn Ott
Jaydn Ott in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick210
Rnd6
Jalen Thompson
Jalen Thompson at pick 210 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick248
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall in slot 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
