Dlynch732 DRAFTING FOR THEGiants
Draft Grade — Giants
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Giants. Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Giants never addressed interior defensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They are betting Freeling proves the room right and everyone else wrong. The Johnson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get juice off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
KC Concepcion
A straight-up fair deal on KC Concepcion at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick102
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
A wild overpay on Monroe Freeling in slot 102, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tao Johnson
Tao Johnson slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the safety. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
