Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D-
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-.

The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Bud Clark at Round 4, Pick 15 regardless, 88 picks early.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.

The Cowboys indulged a want in Clark while a need in tight end and interior defensive lineman stayed open. However the rest shakes out, Iheanachor at that price is a win they earned.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick15 Rnd1 Jeremiyah Love
In the 15th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick28 Rnd1 Romello Height
In pick 28 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. Need was not the driver here.
Pick64 Rnd2 Malik Muhammad
They paid a round early for Malik Muhammad in Round 2, Pick 32, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick96 Rnd3 Earl Little Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Earl Little Jr. at the Round 3 slot, and it noticed. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick107 Rnd4 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jermaine Mathews Jr.. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick115 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Bud Clark at safety with tight end and interior defensive lineman open.
Pick132 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at slot 132 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick155 Rnd5 Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson at the 155th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick178 Rnd5 Roderick Kearney
Value said wait; Roderick Kearney in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick179 Rnd5 Max Iheanachor
The board had Max Iheanachor higher than Round 5, Pick 39, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216 Rnd7 Quintrevion Wisner
A tidy little value on Quintrevion Wisner in pick No. 216, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jalon Daniels
They did well to land Jalon Daniels in No. 229, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
