The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Williams at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get their quarterback of the future. The biggest hole, addressed.
Amarius Mims in No. 42 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Mike Sainristil still on the board at the 108th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Steal is underselling it; Ray Davis at pick No. 130 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
James Williams at pick 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Kamal Hadden in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
You do not let a cornerback like Nehemiah Pritchett reach slot 166 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jordan Magee at the 220th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A running back of that caliber at the 230th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
