The war room fell hard for Austin Reed, and it showed at the 226th pick: 48 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. The math is unkind, and the D- follows.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Hart steal is the beam this whole class leans on. On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Edgerrin Cooper at slot 50 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Javon Bullard in the 59th pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
They let Dadrion Taylor-Demerson come to them and pounced at No. 99. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the 127th overall pick: Sataoa Laumea for less than the market said. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Cam Hart at pick 128 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ben Sinnott in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in the 134th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Luke McCaffrey at the 154th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Trevor Keegan in slot 155 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dallin Holker at pick No. 157 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Jacob Cowing was the payoff at No. 161. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dylan Laube at Round 5, Pick 31. The roster fit checks out.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 171st pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ty'Ron Hopper in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Nice patience on Steele Chambers, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 35. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Austin Reed. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Value said wait; Nick Gargiulo in pick No. 243 says they were not listening. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
