Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders answered their biggest question with Sanders. Grade: B.

The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Karene Reid fell into pick 216.

Shedeur Sanders is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will need Sanders to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.1 · Pick 1 · Shedeur Sanders · QB · rank 3
In pick No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Omarion Hampton · RB · rank 21
Nice patience on Omarion Hampton, who had no business lasting to the 34th pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 23
A quiet steal in No. 39: Emeka Egbuka for less than the market said. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Josaiah Stewart · DE · rank 43
Josaiah Stewart at the 65th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.2 · Pick 103 · Deontae Lawson · LB · rank 86
The board had Deontae Lawson higher than slot 103, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R4.37 · Pick 138 · Sebastian Castro · S · rank 92
You do not let a safety like Sebastian Castro reach Round 4, Pick 37 and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.3 · Pick 178 · Jaeden Roberts · OG · rank 168
They read the board right and Jaeden Roberts was the payoff at pick No. 178. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.37 · Pick 212 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 256
Shilo Sanders at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
R7.2 · Pick 216 · Karene Reid · LB · rank 124
Karene Reid at pick 216 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.3 · Pick 217 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 129
The board fumbled Jay Higgins all the way to the 217th overall pick, and they scooped it up. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
