The rest of the league will want that one back. Jalen Milroe tumbling to the Raiders in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a centerpiece for the ground game. A clean fit for the roster.
Taking Luther Burden III in slot 37 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Azareye'h Thomas in the 68th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Circle this one: Carson Schwesinger at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Jalen Milroe here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ajani Cornelius at the 180th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
JJ Pegues in Round 6, Pick 37 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jack Kiser at pick No. 215 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R.J. Mickens at slot 222 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
