Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Raiders spent pick 195 on Evan Anderson, a name most had 78 spots down the list. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
Everything downstream of Jayden Daniels depends on Jayden Daniels, and the building knows it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hartman.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 9th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
In No. 28 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A tidy little value on Xavier Worthy in pick No. 48, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kiran Amegadjie at pick 60 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went DT-EDGE with Maason Smith while clear needs at cornerback sat open.
By-the-book stuff, Audric Estime at pick No. 96 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Darius Robinson in pick 112 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braelon Allen at No. 122 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jaheim Bell at the 150th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 15, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A real head-scratcher, Evan Anderson in the Round 6 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donell Harris Jr. this early at slot 225. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Sam Hartman in the 227th overall pick, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
