The rest of the league will want that one back. Khyree Jackson tumbling to the Texans in the 158th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The cost of the McClellan reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a double-digit-sack hope at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They paid sticker price for Cooper Beebe in the 53rd pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in slot 95; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Roman Wilson at pick No. 121. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cedric Gray in pick 124 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Khyree Jackson all the way to No. 158, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid a round early for Jase McClellan in the Round 7 slot, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Reuben Fatheree II at the 242nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
