Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Isaiah Neyor got past him. The Texans do not have to explain a thing at the 239th pick. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
They are betting Barrett proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a sticky cover corner. Need was not the driver here.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Legette at slot 58. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Zak Zinter in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Brandon Coleman at Round 4, Pick 23 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
James Williams in No. 126 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They reached into another round for Michael Barrett, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Isaiah Neyor at the 239th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Edefuan Ulofoshio at the 247th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
