The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Devonshire pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The cost of the Logue reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid a round early for Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 44, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Mike Sainristil in No. 77, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Sataoa Laumea in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Johnny Wilson still on the board at pick 148. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A tidy bit of business in the 208th overall pick, where Curtis Jacobs graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
You do not let a cornerback like M.J. Devonshire reach slot 223 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Andrew Raym at Round 7, Pick 7 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Zion Logue at slot 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Jalen Sundell come to them and pounced at No. 257. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
