The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Texans did not so much draft J.C. Davis as overpay for him, 76 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Put together, it is a D-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.3 · Pick 35 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 40
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at No. 35, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · T'Vondre Sweat · DL · rank 63
This one needs a full-page explanation: T'Vondre Sweat in slot 36, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 82
Cooper Beebe in pick 58 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.27 · Pick 59 · Payton Wilson · LB · rank 73
A conviction pick on Payton Wilson at pick No. 59 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.27 · Pick 90 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 90
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · James Williams · S · rank 136
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for James Williams. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 134
Javon Foster at No. 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.23 · Pick 123 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 131
Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 23 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 139
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Hart a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 138
No edge and no loss on Jordan Travis in the 133rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.27 · Pick 163 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 213
Value said wait; Christian Jones in pick No. 163 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
R6.2 · Pick 177 · J.C. Davis · OL · rank 253
A big swing on J.C. Davis at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.24 · Pick 199 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 192
Good price on Javon Baker in the 199th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.22 · Pick 242 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 251
They paid up for Steele Chambers at slot 242 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
