Minnesota Vikings

Phillips should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a A-.

The Vikings ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.

The Phillips pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Kool-Aid McKinstry and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 19
In pick 32 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Bralen Trice · DE-EDGE · rank 22
Bralen Trice at Round 2, Pick 10 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 41
Somehow Tyler Guyton was still sitting there in the 60th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 63
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adisa Isaac. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 112
Leonard Taylor III in pick No. 130 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 151
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at slot 148 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 147
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 21 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 158
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 160 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R5.29 · Pick 165 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 159
A reasonable price with a little left over, LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 165. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Aki Ogunbiyi · OG · rank 185
They paid sticker price for Aki Ogunbiyi in the 179th overall pick, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.20 · Pick 195 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 167
Andru Phillips in pick 195 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Jaden Crumedy · DT-EDGE · rank 225
A tidy little value on Jaden Crumedy in the 230th pick, a step better than break-even. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
R7.21 · Pick 241 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Matthew Jones in the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
