The rest of the league will want that one back. Dillon Gabriel tumbling to the Raiders in the 214th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tre Harris in pick No. 68, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jack Bech at the 73rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow Devin Neal was still sitting there in the 107th pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Chris Paul Jr. at pick No. 144 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Jack Nelson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a quarterback like Dillon Gabriel reach No. 214 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Taking Jaylen Reed in slot 218 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Ollie Gordon II in Round 7, Pick 6 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
