The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Tre Harris, the No. 50 name on the board, sitting there at the 121st overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
Martin has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th pick they get a lockdown presence outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No drama and no debate, Emeka Egbuka went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jihaad Campbell in the 37th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Fair-plus on Xavier Watts, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
A clean, defensible pick in slot 54 with a little surplus value in Aireontae Ersery. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They read the board right and TreVeyon Henderson was the payoff at No. 67. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Darien Porter in pick 68, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Isaiah Bond come to them and pounced at pick No. 84. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach on Jordan Phillips in slot 94; the board had better options right there. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ozzy Trapilo at the 107th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Steal is underselling it; Tre Harris at pick No. 121 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cam Skattebo in Round 4, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Will Howard was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier quarterback value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let a running back like Bhayshul Tuten reach No. 182 and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Oronde Gadsden II in pick 214 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nick Martin at the 218th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
