The Vikings spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Quinshon Judkins, the No. 70 name on the board, in pick 177.
They will need Strong to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
So much rides on Walter Nolen that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a disruptive interior force. A real need, handled.
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Dylan Fairchild was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 3. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jared Wilson in pick No. 134 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Dorian Strong at the 140th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A safety of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Quinshon Judkins in No. 177, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Corey Brooks. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Thor Griffith well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
