Start where it matters. The Vikings took J.J. McCarthy to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Hadden pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a franchise quarterback, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in No. 42, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Xavier Worthy at slot 82 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zak Zinter in the 108th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Newton at Round 4, Pick 29 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A quiet steal in the 157th pick: Luke McCaffrey for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Sione Vaki at pick 167 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No drama and no debate, Grayson Murphy went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Kamal Hadden all the way to No. 188, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Trente Jones at pick 191 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 230 is the definition of value, full stop. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
