Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals found their guy under center in Maye: B+.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Cardinals spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Cowing steal is the beam this whole class leans on. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

It is not that Moore is a bad player; it is that the Cardinals had louder needs to answer first.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 3
In No. 2 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R1.15 · Pick 15 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 18
In the 15th pick they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 62
Nothing to complain about; Sedrick Van Pran went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Rod Moore · DB · rank 73
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 74th overall pick on Rod Moore with edge rusher unsolved.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Nazir Stackhouse · DL · rank 78
Nazir Stackhouse in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · J. Michael Sturdivant · WR · rank 98
They did well to land J. Michael Sturdivant in pick 102, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 131
Audric Estime in pick No. 133 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 139
No drama and no debate, Cedric Gray went about where he belonged in slot 139. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 163
Fair-plus on Cam Hart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Jacob Cowing · WR · rank 174
Jacob Cowing at pick 198 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Zion Nelson · OT · rank 231
A premium they did not need to pay, Zion Nelson a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Michael Trigg · TE · rank 235
They paid up for Michael Trigg at pick No. 224 when waiting would have done the job. A need, and now a little less of one.
