You can draft well and still miss the point. The Vikings did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to safety, which was the need that mattered most. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Every board in the league had Hartman lower, and that gap is the story. That Ceaser pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value.
No drama and no debate, J.J. McCarthy went about where he belonged in pick 42. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at the 108th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Javon Foster at pick No. 130 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nelson Ceaser at slot 148. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Theo Wease Jr. in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Sam Hartman in Round 5, Pick 29; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Steve Linton a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Eric Gentry in slot 230 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It adds depth where they could use a little.
