Boards are made to be trusted, and the Vikings shredded theirs for Rylie Mills. He came off 173 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 29 they get the face of the franchise, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 44, where T'Vondre Sweat graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Quinyon Mitchell. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 59 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
TreVeyon Henderson at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Max Melton was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 27. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They reached into another round for Jaylan Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 159th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Moore at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 165 with a little surplus value in Ainias Smith. It fills a real need, too.
Andrew Raym at Round 5, Pick 30 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Darius Robinson well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Joe Milton III at pick No. 187 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Curtis Jacobs went about where he belonged in pick 198. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
A big swing on Isaiah Neyor at pick No. 213, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
They took Omar Speights at par in slot 225, which is nothing to complain about. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Rylie Mills at Round 7, Pick 6 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid up for Walter Rouse at the 227th pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Austin Stogner in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
