The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They are betting TeSlaa proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Sampson.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jihaad Campbell in Round 2, Pick 1 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They took Xavier Watts at par in pick No. 37, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Quinshon Judkins at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No drama and no debate, Cameron Williams went about where he belonged in pick 68. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They jumped the gun on Jalen Milroe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Sampson at No. 81 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tate Ratledge at the 82nd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylin Noel. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Anthony Belton at pick 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A conviction pick on Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 143 that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Dont'e Thornton Jr. at slot 180 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A big swing on Isaac TeSlaa at Round 6, Pick 37, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
