The phones were a trap the Texans kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Beebe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Job largely done: running back settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get an island corner. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 55, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 24 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Cooper Beebe. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than Roman Wilson at pick 71, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Javon Foster at the 120th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
James Williams in slot 127 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
