The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Raiders reached some 88 spots for Ethan Downs, and value like that does not grow back.
Everything downstream of Cam Ward depends on Cam Ward, and the building knows it. Getting Marshall Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
They did well to land Omarion Hampton in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, TreVeyon Henderson at Round 3, Pick 4. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Denzel Burke in the 107th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Lathan Ransom at the 144th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They reached into another round for Ethan Downs, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board had Jack Kiser higher than No. 214, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached a country mile for Ty Hamilton at Round 6, Pick 40, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Jason Marshall Jr. was still sitting there in slot 224, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
