The Raiders spent real capital to be 107 picks early on Javontez Spraggins, and the board is going to hold them to it.
On value alone, Mondon Jr. makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a bell-cow for the offense. A real need, handled.
Fair-plus on Omarion Hampton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jalen Milroe at Round 3, Pick 4 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Will Howard at the 108th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in the 143rd pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No drama and no debate, Dont'e Thornton Jr. went about where he belonged in the Round 6 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Jack Kiser all the way to No. 213, and they scooped it up. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Javontez Spraggins in the 222nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
