Some picks age like wine; Kyle McCord at the 106th pick will need to, sitting 114 spots clear of his grade. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
Landing Bassa that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Dylan Fairchild a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Dylan Sampson in pick 69, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kyle McCord at the 106th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They barely believed it either: Kevin Winston Jr. still on the board at pick No. 146. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 6 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Taking Jeffrey Bassa in Round 6, Pick 37 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Value said wait; Thor Griffith in the 216th pick says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Elijhah Badger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
