The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. Put together, it is a D.
If Sanders pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
A slide stopped in pick 33, with Emeka Egbuka worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 17 is the definition of value, full stop. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Cooper Beebe at No. 50 squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
You do not let a cornerback like Quinyon Mitchell reach the 92nd overall pick and blink. They did not. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Junior Colson well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Cade Stover at slot 117 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach for James Williams in the 118th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Theo Wease at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: T.J. Sanders in pick No. 154, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Sam Hartman at No. 234 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
De'Corian Clark in pick 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
