The rest of the league will want that one back. Smael Mondon Jr. tumbling to the Raiders in pick No. 216 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. The bottom line is a respectable B.
If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Everything downstream of Shedeur Sanders depends on Shedeur Sanders, and the building knows it.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Tate Ratledge is a better player than Round 2, Pick 12 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
You do not let a wide receiver like Matthew Golden reach the 68th overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jihaad Campbell in the 73rd pick, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 142 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They will replay Sonny Styles at No. 178 for years; that is how good the value is. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Steal is underselling it; Vernon Broughton at Round 6, Pick 37 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in pick No. 216 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
KJ Jefferson at pick 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Jaylen Reed at the 227th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
