When a board-topper like Anthony Belton slides to slot 182, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not.
Whatever Jaxson Dart becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. If Skattebo pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get the arm they will build around, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
Omarion Hampton at No. 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Tre Harris was the payoff at the 64th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Aireontae Ersery in the 68th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value said wait; Cam Skattebo in No. 73 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ajani Cornelius at slot 121 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Jeffrey Bassa higher than Round 5, Pick 5, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Belton at pick No. 182 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Jabbar Muhammad all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Earnest Greene III at pick 218 for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Chase Lundt in the 224th pick, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
