The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Raiders watched Tre Harris slide 96 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise at a price that makes it sweeter.
They robbed the room for Ashton Jeanty here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 22 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Armand Membou at No. 68 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jalon Walker at the Round 3 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in pick 107, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tre Harris at slot 144 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
