The Texans ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If Lindberg pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Running back was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They bet on numbers rather than a single high pick.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 24th overall pick they get a weapon on the perimeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 44 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No drama and no debate, Junior Colson went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 14. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for James Williams at the 112th pick, and the board is aghast. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Foster at the Round 4 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jaylin Simpson at No. 127 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ben Sinnott in pick 145 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Wright at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Chad Lindberg. The roster fit checks out.
