Somebody took the Raiders to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The Campbell pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a home-run threat at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 30 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kenneth Grant slipping to Round 2, Pick 5 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Watts in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Aireontae Ersery. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Tyler Booker come to them and pounced at No. 56. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land TreVeyon Henderson in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Darien Porter went about where he belonged in slot 68. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let a wide receiver like Isaiah Bond reach the 108th overall pick and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at No. 143 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Taking Jalen Milroe in pick No. 148 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 166th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, JJ Pegues in Round 6, Pick 4. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
