Somewhere a general manager is explaining how De'Corian Clark got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at No. 249.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th overall pick they get juice off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
The board had Chris Braswell higher than slot 55, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good price on Javon Foster in No. 60, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Bucky Irving in pick No. 87 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 3 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tory Horton at Round 4, Pick 18. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Howard Cross III in the 121st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at pick 137. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in the 148th overall pick: Jaheim Bell for less than the market said. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Mike Sainristil, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Connor Colby in the 160th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land Tre Harris in pick 172, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nice patience on Malachi Moore, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in slot 178, where Zy Alexander graded well above the range. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
De'Corian Clark in pick No. 249 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
