The rest of the league had time to spare on Austin Reed; the Eagles did not wait, grabbing him 41 spots ahead at Round 7, Pick 13.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. However the rest shakes out, Wilson at that price is a win they earned.
With interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with interior defensive lineman still staring back at them.
Pick-by-Pick
Brock Bowers in pick No. 13 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Troy Fautanu in slot 27. It fills a real need, too.
No drama and no debate, Edgerrin Cooper went about where he belonged in No. 44. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Junior Colson in the Round 2 slot leaves interior defensive lineman for later.
Nothing to complain about; Adisa Isaac went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kamren Kinchens in No. 71. The roster fit checks out.
Xavier Legette in Round 3, Pick 11 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Max Melton at slot 98 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Gabriel Murphy in pick 99 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Somehow Kris Abrams-Draine was still sitting there in the 119th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They let Matt Goncalves come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
James Williams at the 161st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Johnny Wilson in Round 5, Pick 36 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Cody Schrader at the 174th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Tahj Washington still on the board at the 210th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nice patience on Steele Chambers, who had no business lasting to slot 216. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Austin Reed at pick 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
