The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Savion Williams, the No. 98 name on the board, sitting there at the 144th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Raiders paired the rookies with proven help, Matthew Stafford leading the way.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Aireontae Ersery still on the board at the 68th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jalen Milroe in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Savion Williams in pick No. 144 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They will replay Damien Martinez at pick 182 for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Jason Marshall Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Hancock at Round 6, Pick 40 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith in No. 224 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow LaJohntay Wester was still sitting there in the 249th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
