The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
Spending an early pick on linebacker with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. If Bishop pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Moore.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 25th pick they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Graham Barton. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Quinyon Mitchell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ladd McConkey in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Denzel Burke at pick No. 50 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at par in No. 57, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Patrick Paul in slot 59. It fills a real need, too.
Rod Moore at the 84th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Marist Liufau, a linebacker they were not short of.
No drama and no debate, Audric Estime went about where he belonged in pick No. 101. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in slot 125: Cooper Beebe for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
They went early on Cole Bishop in Round 5, Pick 1, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing McCallan Castles in No. 156. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 172 is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Theo Wease Jr. in the 178th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Fair-plus on Steele Chambers, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
No edge and no loss on Carson Steele in the 248th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
