You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Will Sheppard in the Round 3 slot.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The Booker value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
Hit on Tyler Booker and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Booker at slot 43. The roster fit checks out.
They talked themselves into Shilo Sanders at pick 57, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Will Sheppard. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach on Malachi Moore in the 89th pick; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dominic Lovett at No. 153 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Burch in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Damon Payne Jr. in slot 206, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jalen Catalon at Round 7, Pick 25 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
