You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Texans did exactly that with Jordan Whittington in the Round 7 slot. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 23 they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
They took T'Vondre Sweat at par in slot 58, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Cooper Beebe at the 90th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Foster in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kris Abrams-Draine at pick No. 126 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Trey Knox this early at pick 163. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Whittington in Round 7, Pick 19 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
