The Texans put a flag in the ground for Justin Rogers, 40 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
On value alone, Franklin makes the weekend a net positive. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Adding Isaac Seumalo by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary, and a steal at that.
The board fumbled Troy Franklin all the way to pick 53, and they scooped it up. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Bucky Irving at slot 98 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Blake Fisher, who had no business lasting to pick No. 123. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Justin Rogers, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Michael Barrett here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
