When a board-topper like Tyler Shough slides to Round 6, Pick 36, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They have staked the next five years on Cam Ward, which is the only story that really matters here. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
The board fumbled Kenneth Grant all the way to No. 37, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Bond at No. 68. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Azareye'h Thomas higher than the 73rd pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Kevin Winston Jr. in slot 107, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nothing to complain about; Ollie Gordon II went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They will replay Tyler Shough at pick No. 214 for years; that is how good the value is. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 218 with a little surplus value in Hayden Conner. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No edge and no loss on Cam Jackson in the 224th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
