The board owed the Raiders one, and it paid up: Tyler Shough, the No. 139 name on the board, sitting there at the 222nd pick like a gift left on the doorstep. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
The whole projection now runs through Cam Ward; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Adding Kamari Lassiter by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They read the board right and Jalon Walker was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. A minor itch, scratched.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in pick 68, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zy Alexander at No. 108. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Emery Jones Jr. reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
DJ Giddens in pick No. 213 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Circle this one: JJ Pegues at the 215th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Shough at the 222nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
