The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Raiders reached some 124 spots for Kyle McCord, and value like that does not grow back. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Paul Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a blindside protector at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Nick Emmanwori at the 39th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Dylan Fairchild slipping to pick No. 69 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jayden Higgins at pick 70 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Kyle McCord at the 106th pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Danny Stutsman in Round 5, Pick 9 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
The board fumbled Nicholas Singleton all the way to slot 183, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Chris Paul Jr. at the 212th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Thor Griffith at Round 6, Pick 41 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Elijhah Badger at pick No. 223, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
