The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: JD Bertrand, slot 220, roughly 25 picks past where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Sweat reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 13 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Cooper Beebe at par in pick No. 77, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Justin Eboigbe at No. 125 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
MarShawn Lloyd in Round 5, Pick 14 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Christian Jones at pick 203 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Myles Jones in the 204th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: JD Bertrand at the 220th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Joshua Cephus in the 234th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid up for Xavier Thomas at the 246th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
