If confidence were a draft strategy, the Cardinals would have aced it. Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 4 slot is 100 spots clear of where he belonged. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Smith-Wade. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 26th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Chop Robinson in the 35th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mekhi Wingo. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Javon Bullard, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 89, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

Chau Smith-Wade at pick No. 188 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
