The Vikings let Johnson fall into their laps, and walked away with a B.

The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Dillon Johnson, Round 6, Pick 15, roughly 21 picks past where he belonged. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.

Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Quarterback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 19
In the 15th pick they get a ballhawk on the outside at fair value. More want than need.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 32
J.J. McCarthy at the 38th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · Adisa Isaac · DE-EDGE · rank 50
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Adisa Isaac. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Malik Washington · WR · rank 96
Malik Washington slid further than he should have, and slot 109 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · James Williams · S · rank 118
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing James Williams in pick No. 130. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 167
They took Javion Cohen at par in pick 166, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Ty'Ron Hopper · LB · rank 176
Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 179 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Dillon Johnson · RB · rank 169
A running back of that caliber at the Round 6 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Jaden Crumedy · DT-EDGE · rank 226
Nothing to complain about; Jaden Crumedy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
