The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Jamari Thrash slide 22 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Hartman has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Chop Robinson in slot 20. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Zak Zinter at No. 80, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Junior Colson in the 120th overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They barely believed it either: Jamari Thrash still on the board at pick 157. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Will Shipley in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They took BJ Mayes at par in the 168th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They paid sticker price for Brevyn Spann-Ford in Round 6, Pick 4, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Sam Hartman in pick No. 241, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
