The Vikings treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending the 174th pick on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson a full 91 spots early. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Skattebo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Vikings clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Nick Emmanwori at the 39th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Jake Majors at the 73rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to slot 91, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Willie Lampkin in pick No. 137 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylin Smith in pick 181, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A wild overpay on Thor Griffith in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Jack Kiser in the 226th overall pick, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
