Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Roman Wilson got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Davis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at the 42nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Christian Mahogany at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 129 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They went early on Austin Booker in No. 148, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Isaiah Davis at Round 5, Pick 17 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Cam Hart in slot 160 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
You do not let a cornerback like Kamal Hadden reach pick 168 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Beaux Limmer in slot 179 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
David Ugwoegbu in No. 230 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
