Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Roman Wilson got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at the Round 4 slot. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Davis pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.

Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.11 · Pick 11 · Jer'Zhan Newton · DL · rank 12
In the 11th pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 44
J.J. McCarthy at the 42nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 80
Christian Mahogany at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 83
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 129 is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Austin Booker · DL-EDGE · rank 159
They went early on Austin Booker in No. 148, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.17 · Pick 153 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 183
Isaiah Davis at Round 5, Pick 17 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 137
Cam Hart in slot 160 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kamal Hadden · CB · rank 138
You do not let a cornerback like Kamal Hadden reach pick 168 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Beaux Limmer · C · rank 144
Beaux Limmer in slot 179 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · David Ugwoegbu · OLB-EDGE · rank 233
David Ugwoegbu in No. 230 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
